The eighth annual HbbTV Symposium opened in Athens. The number of attendees showed the increasing level of international interest in the hybrid broadcast broadband standard.

Epeegee and the Greek broadcaster Open Beyond TV using innovative technologies of hybrid television were described, by HbbTV Union President Vincent Grivet, as a Success Story.

Epegee’s hybrid television services were at the forefront of the conference, and Vincent Grivet, speaking on the Open Beyond TV channel’s camera, said: “There was a wonderful banquet here in Athens, we had great speakers, great attendees, all great participants content of the Court. This is especially the case when Open Beyond TV is the new channel that broadcasts HbbTV services in Greece, something that everyone will follow. ”

It is worth noting here that an innovation of Open’s hybrid services is the broadcasting of local television stations, which in this way reach all the homes in the Greek territory.

Epeegee’s Managing Director, Stathis Michail, referred to the launch of Open Beyond TV and the innovative solutions used. Addressable advertising was one of them. The idea is to substitute individual commercials with campaigns that are more relevant to individual viewers, potentially at the household level.

It was by its nature a meeting of supporters of the standard and the first day shared a number of success stories. Among them are Freesat and Freeview Play in the United Kingdom, HD Plus in Germany, TiVù in Italy and Epeegee in Greece. These are examples of HbbTV apps, which essentially enable a service provider to manage much of the user interface on a compatible television, so the service appears like a software defined source input, like a virtual set-top box, resident in the display.
